Flipping hell

I generally don't do Pancake Day. David does the whisking and the cooking and flipping but he's out at a cricket club meeting. I perused the shelves of ready made mixes yesterday, even dallied with buying those little Scotch pancake things, you know, the ones with the sultanas. I even Googled for a recipe for pancakes - yes, I am that much of a novice.

I measured, weighed, sploshed and whisked. I heated the pan with oil watched by my devoted son and three drooling hounds. And then came the moment to flip. I wimped out of the first flip and used the spatula to turn it. It resembled an omelette. Still, Mac made yummy noises and squirted maple syrup manically. My second pancake I flipped. No, it didn't hit the ceiling, it didn't even stick to the pan.

Tip: don't flip pancakes in bare feet.

Hmmm. Pancake sandals - you could start a fashion trend!

I forgot it! Can you believe that? I forgot it! (Oh, the shame...)

There definitely is a knack to making pancakes. When it starts making all those holes around the outside - flip! Of course you know that don't you!

I'm sure the dogs loved them too!

Last year we made pancakes for the boys and they refused to eat them. So this year we had them for ourselves - two ham and cheese ones followed by a lemon and sugar one! Mmm.

Oh no! Not good! Although after all that effort I hope the kids ate it anyway! We didn't even attempt them. It was a relief to hear my daughter say that she didn't like pancakes, so thinking about making them was as far as I got!

That always adds a bit of flavour!

At least you're not wearing pancake makeup... perhaps your approach was too serious? To make good pancakes, one must adopt a flippant attitude.

Oh all right, I'll stop. For now...

I have an excuse, they don't do pancake day over here. Which is a bummer, really, because I love pancakes. That said, generally over here you can't move for crepes, so I shouldn't complain too much. Hope your feet didn't get too hot!

That pancake looks good. I chickened out of making them altogether!
